Gangs of Wasseypur Music Reviews

 BOLLYSPICE
Sneha Khanwalkar has come up with one of the most amazing albums of the year so far, because it is such a refreshing change from what we usually hear. As expected, this is an eclectic bunch of the most hilarious, oddest, and enthusiastic songs I’ve heard in such a long time. The album fuses together so many different musical genres and styles, but retains the Bihari spirit in each of the tracks. And also how wonderful is it to find such a talented female music director who gives some of the usual male music directors a run for their money in terms of originality and versatility. There is not one song here that sounds familiar or flows into one, each of them are so innovative and fun. It’s truly one of the albums that should be on your shelf this year.

We went with 4.5 but to be honest I am seriously leaning toward our highest ever rating of 5/5!

Milliblog Review by karthik
In Jiya tu, Sneha craftily mixes Manoj Tiwari’s earthy vocals with her brand of funky backgrounds. Hunter, despite the look-ma-I’m-cool tag upfront, is curiously interesting for its Caribbean and Soca sound, and the outrageous lyrics. Echoing Karz’s Om Shanti Om, O womaniya is bloody inventive; simple, seemingly folk’ish tune, sung with superb verve. Amit Trivedi and Sneha rock Keh ke lunga; Piyush’s dark-humor loaded lyrics and the mind-bogglingly ingenious tune and orchestration help. Bhoos‘ scintillating guitar and addictive Na mili hai chorus works wonders, while Bhaiyya is almost RD Burman’ish in construction, but for that drone sound. Tain tain to‘s hilarious, free-form vocals by Sneha, with utterly random music; Soona kar ke and Aey jawanon’s nautanki flavor; Humni ke chhodi ke’s serene lullaby and Loonga loonga‘s bizarrely addictive lyrics by Varun Grover round-off Sneha’s tunes. Piyush Mishra’s Ik bagal‘s has brilliant lyrics by Piyush himself and that manages to overshadow his own fabulous vocals and and tune, incredibly. His other song, Manmauji, is the most cohesive and melodious song of the soundtrack; lovely tune with judiciously minimal background music that builds momentum slowly and steadily. Gangs of Wasseypur is one of the most original and imaginative soundtracks in recent times!
